NW List: Worst TV Series Based on Films

Sometimes, when a movie is successful, the production company tries to find a way to exploit that success. Sometimes it come in the form of a sequel. A great example of a squeal that is fantastic is Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Sometimes sequels are really shitty, for example Dumb and Dumberer. Of course there are other routes to generate income. Most of the major films released in the 1990’s had a shitty video game adaption. A trend that I am very happy to say, for the most part, has died off. But occasionally we get one of the more rare exploits. The TV series based on the film. These come in two forms, animated and live action. Animated series tend to be geared towards children and occur much more often that their live action counter parts. Live action series, such as NBC’s About a Boy and CBS’s upcoming Bad Teacher, usually get the shit end of the stick. Only are very rare occasions are these abominations any good at all. If you would like to see a good one, check out Stargate SG1. If you want to see some shitty ones, join me on this adventure through the worst TV series based on films NW List.

5. Tremors: The Series (2003, SciFi Channel)

Before SciFi Channel become SyFy, they made some shitty shows. The would attempt to exploit anything they could in able to grab peoples attention. And then a funny thing happened. Some of their shows, like Farscape, became successful without an established name attached to it. Either way, Tremors: The Series was a sack of shit and only lasted one season, like more of the series on this list.

4. Mortal Kombat: Konquest (1998, TNT)

Now this one is hard because it is a series based on a film, that is based on a video game. Mortal Kombat was the shit in 1998. The movies were terrible, but no one really cared. There had been a few movies based on games that had already come out, but remembering back, the fact that they were making a movie about a game I loved so much was just mind blowing. The movie was terrible, but I didn’t care. I even defended Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, but Konquest is where I draw the line. It is fucking terrible.

3. Ninja Turtles: the Next Mutation (1997, Fox Kids)

You thought Turtles 3 was bad…This takes the cake. Honesty, I don;t even want to write about it. It’s on Netflix if you feel the need to torture yourself, but remember…There is a fifth turtle and shes a girl.

2. Uncle Buck (1990, NBC)

Ok… this one is a little more obscure, but again, what is there to say. It lasted a year and got shit canned. How do you make a series about a John Candy movie and not have John Candy in it? That’s like making a Dumb and Dumber movie without Jim Carey or Jeff Bridges (wink).

1. Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventures (1992, Fox)

Holy fuck this show is bad. I mean seriously bad. I can’t stand when iconic roles are recast, see Uncle Buck, but this series takes the cake. What could the producers possibly be thinking? I don’t know, just take a look and try not to kill yourself.
